HUS harmonized the management of patient and care instructions with the help of the Instruction Repository
HUS
HUS is the largest specialized health care operator in Finland. Almost 700,000 patients are treated annually by 27,000 top professionals. The treatment and research of a number of difficult diseases is centred at HUS on a national level. The large number of patients also imposes requirements on the management of patient and care instructions.

The aim of HUS has been to harmonise the management, maintenance and archiving of patient and care instructions and to create a document management system where up-to-date instructions can be found easily. Based on a tender, the chosen document management solution is a system built on the eBusiness Suite platform. HUS named the system Ohjepankki (Instructions Repository).
The first units at HUS began using the Instructions Repository in 2020, and since then the usage of the system has expanded in stages. Now the patient and care instructions are updated and created in accordance with a uniform operating model on the instructions management side and published in the Instruction Repository's Search Centre.
“The Instructions Repository makes the personnel’s work easier. The instructions are only updated in one place and always include the responsible person and the date of the latest update. It is also easy for users to find the instructions they need in the Search Centre with either the name of the instruction or by using the comprehensive search function. The fact that one up-to-date version of the instructions is always available will improve patient safety,” says Janica Raaska, Project Manager at the IT department at HUS.
