Beyond “Hello World”: A look inside twoday’s summer internship

A new group of 13 interns wrapped up their summer internship with us at twoday in the Oslo office – working on real-life projects with real customers. No shadowing or side tasks – just solving actual problems, collaborating in agile teams, and learning how tech really works in practice. For us, that’s not just a nice-to-have. It’s a responsibility.

At twoday, we see it as both a privilege and a responsibility to give back. As a tech company, we’re in a unique position to share what we know – not just our tools and methods, but our time, our experience, and our culture. When we open that up to students and early-career talent, we’re not just helping them grow. We’re contributing to a stronger tech community and a better society shaped by thoughtful, responsible technology.

Summer internships aren’t just summer jobs. They’re opportunities – for students to get a real sense of what working in tech is like, and for us to invest in the next generation of developers, designers, data scientists, and engineers. It’s a space for them to try things out, build confidence, and connect theory with practice.

At the same time, it’s incredibly valuable for us as a company. Every intern brings new perspectives, good questions, and fresh energy that challenge us to reflect on how we work, how we support growth, and how we can do better. We believe in growing people – that’s at the core of who we are.” – Kristin Rotevatn Nyberg, Country Managing Director at twoday Norway.

Real projects, real tech, real learning

Our interns worked on meaningful projects this year – from AI tools to public infrastructure to data-driven platforms. Each team had clear goals, direct access to mentors, and full ownership of their work.

Jenny and her team explored how AI can be used to digitize and structure messy document archives. They built a tool using Azure OpenAI, Document Intelligence, .NET, and React, making it easier for organizations to turn scanned folders into clean, searchable files.

“I got to explore new tech, learn from great people, and contribute to something useful,” says Jenny. “It wasn’t just about building skills - it helped me understand what kind of work I enjoy most.”

Hermine joined with a background in economics and sustainability and ended up building a staffing solution for Vy Buss, working with Databricks, PySpark, and Qlik Cloud.

“We faced daily challenges but tackled them together,” she says. “It was very hands-on and collaborative – a great way to learn.”

And for Maria, who returned for her second summer, the project with Brønnøysundregistrene gave her the chance to help modernize one of Norway’s key public institutions. Her team rotated responsibilities, worked closely with the client, and delivered a better way to manage business data.

“It’s exciting, sometimes intense - but so valuable,” says Maria. “It confirmed that this is what I want to do full-time.”

A good team makes all the difference

At twoday, we believe that strong learning environments start with strong team culture. That means creating the kind of workplace where people feel safe to ask questions, speak up, and contribute from day one – regardless of background or experience.

“Creating an environment where people can ask questions, try new things, and be themselves is part of our culture,” says Kristin Rotevatn Nyberg. “That sense of openness and psychological safety isn’t just important for interns – it’s something we want everyone at twoday to experience.”

This year’s interns really felt the impact of that culture. Maria shared how psychological safety became the foundation for her team’s collaboration – making it easier to ask questions, support each other, and grow both personally and professionally. Meanwhile, Hermine described how she and her teammate approached each challenge with a mindset of “us against the problem,” which kept them focused and motivated throughout the project.

Because beyond the tools and technologies, what often matters most is the people you build with.

Thinking about your next step?

We don’t expect interns to know everything. We expect them to be curious, motivated, and open to trying. That’s why our teams are set up to support learning from day one – with mentoring, regular feedback, and room to experiment and grow. Because in the end, it’s not just about what they build. It’s about the kind of people and professionals they’re becoming.

If you’re studying tech and want to build something real, we’d love to hear from you. Our internship program is designed to give you responsibility, support, and the chance to explore different roles – and most importantly, to feel like you’re truly part of a team.
